MAC Cosmetics Essentials (No 2)

I did one of these posts a while back, and considering that I’ve been spending a fair bit in MAC lately (both time and money!), I thought it was time for a second instalment. MAC does so many different varieties of cosmetics that I think there’s something for everyone, but there are those few products that I think will work for basically anyone and everyone. Here are a couple more that I’ve come across on my MAC adventures!

First up has to be the Mineralise Skinfinish Natural. Although I looooove the normal skinfinishes, which are more like highlighters, I think the natural powders really suit more people. The Skinfinish Natural powders are essentially setting powders, for locking concealer and foundation into place and/or mattifying the face. They come in several different shades, more so than most drugstore brands, so there will most likely be a shade for everyone. The thing I love most about these powders is that they aren’t completely matte – they do the job of setting liquid and cream products, and also keep oil at bay, but they don’t look completely flat. They almost have the teeniest tiniest hint of glow to them, not even a shimmer but something that reflects light, to brighten the face whilst keeping it looking natural and not overdone. These aren’t the absolute best setting powders I’ve ever tried, and they will cake if you pack it on under the eyes, but the beauty of these is that you don’t need that much product. Definitely one to try if you’re after a new setting powder, or a great buy to add to any makeup collection.

My other choice for this essentials post has to be the Strobe Cream from MAC. This comes in both a full size and a handy travel size. This is essentially along the lines of a dewy, luminising primer, but with added benefits. It’s actually described on the MAC website as a moisturiser, and although I wouldn’t replace my skincare with it, it’s definitely on the more moisturising side where primer are concerned. The added benefits come from botanicals, vitamins, green tea, and antioxidants, which MAC claims will refresh, brighten, clarify, and boost dull or tired looking skin. Honestly, it seems to do all of these things. It’s also got the tiniest hint of shimmer, which completely disappears on the skin, but which also really makes a difference once you’ve added your base on top. It steers clear of the oily look, and gives a natural glowy finish. The original and effective glowy base, I’d hugely recommend to everyone. And if you don’t want to splash out, the travel size is perfect to try out first!
