Earlier this month, I finally managed to get back to Florida, 15 years after my last visit. And of course I spent most of my time at the parks! We also headed out to Texas for a second week to spend time with family, which was really chilled compared to a busy week in Orlando.
In Orlando, we stayed at one of the Rosen Inns on International Drive. It was super close to Universal Studios, which we had an unlimited ticket for, which worked out really well for us. To get around, we mostly used Uber (the complimentary hotel shuttle was free but infrequent and very very crowded). I’d massively recommend spending the extra few dollars for an Uber, although this of course was a lot easier being able to use my data abroad (check out the Three Advanced Plan for this).
We also had 2 days at Disney – because quite honestly we couldn’t afford any more – which we spent at Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. The former especially was absolutely brilliant. I loved Disney films as a child, and there really is something magical about being immersed in such a happy, celebratory environment. Favourite ride of the two was definitely Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom – you’re going backwards for the majority of it!
The rest of our time in Orlando was spent in the Universal parks. Harry Potter world at both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure was just amazing, it’s so immersive and some of the rides are fantastic. I did refrain from buying a wand though – the queue to get into Ollivanders was longer than some of the rides! The Hulk ride at Islands was a big favourite for me, and the Universal water park, Volcano Bay, was also well worth a visit of slides are your thing.
Our second week spent in Austin, Texas was far more relaxing, and we mostly spent our time eating out and shopping, which suited me just fine. We also drove up to Waco, Texas, where the Magnolia Silos are – if you’ve ever watched Fixer Upper, you’ll know what I mean!
We had such a brilliant two weeks out in the US, and I know we’ll be back as soon as we can. Pictures below!
