Welcome to another monthly round up! I feel like I had an excellent reading month in May, and there are a ton of books here which I cannot wait to tell you about – enjoy! A Skinful of Shadows – Frances Hardinge I picked this book up because I’d bought tickets to see the author speak at Hay Literary Festival on a bit of a whim. And this book was truly brilliant, so that was a stroke of luck! A Skinful of Shadows follows Makepeace,…Continue Reading “Reading Round Up {May}”

Genuinely can’t believe it’s May! Even though Christmas feels like an age ago, the ensuing four months have passed in a flash. I managed to read 6 books in April, definitely not my best but to be fair one of the them was well over 700 pages (looking at you Gaiman). I actually really enjoyed everything I read this month, so read on if you want to know what books have been gripping me and why! Throne of Glass – Sarah J. Maas I’m a…Continue Reading “Reading Round Up {April}”

Quick fire round up of the four (yep, just four) books which I managed to get through in February. I’m blaming the shorter month for my lack of reading… Brave New World – Aldous Huxley I didn’t expect to like this at all – having read 1984, I was put off reading dystopian novels for a good while. But how different this is! The underlying bleakness and dissatisfaction of a seemingly perfect future society is still there, but so are in-depth characterisations and a dose…Continue Reading “Reading Round Up 2018 {February}”

This arrived in the post earlier this week, and I can confirm that it is, of course, gorgeous. The packaging is exactly the same as Modern Renaissance and Subculture, just in a matte gold kind of shade. Not the prettiest colour, but as always with Anastasia its great quality. The eyeshadows themselves are really beautiful. Nowhere near as powdery as the Subculture, nor as colourful as the Modern Renaissance, there are a ton of soft browns, crease shades, and deeper defining browns. There are a…Continue Reading “[REVIEW] Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette”

This is a major throwback to the summer, but I wanted to talk about a couple of high-end makeup picks I’ve been loving over the past few months! Marc Jacobs Beauty is a relatively new discovery for me. This bronzer was part of the summer collection, and I just fell in love with the packaging. The product itself had great reviews too, so I thought I’d give it a go. Whilst I was there, I of course had to pick up the Dew Drops Coconut…Continue Reading “[THROWBACK] New-ish Luxury Makeup”

Sarah Perry’s second novel is seriously something else. It’s totally not something I would usually read, and I’ll admit that I was drawn in by the Waterstones special edition cover (it’s shiny and the pages are blue – what more could you want?!). I hadn’t read her first novel, but I have to say my expectations were high after the level of hype surrounding this book last year. This included being awarded the 2016 Waterstones Book of the Year award, winning both the fiction and overall…Continue Reading “[REVIEW] The Essex Serpent – Sarah Perry”

In light of the fact that my favourite book ever is Pride and Prejudice, and has been for a good five years or so, I thought it might be time to give Austen’s other novels a go. I wasn’t a fan of Sense and Sensibility (although loved the film, obvs) – I just couldn’t get into the story or sympathise with the characters. I’ve also read Emma, which I enjoyed the message of but again not necessarily the characters. So my next choice was Northanger…Continue Reading “[REVIEW] Northanger Abbey – Jane Austen”

I bought the Benefit Oxygen Wow foundation on recommendation from my cousin, and as it’s the only foundation she uses I thought it must be good. It retails for £26.50 on feelunique.com, although I actually picked this up in duty free a couple of months ago, and I’ve only just got round to really testing it out and giving it a good full day of wear. As I’m writing this, I’ve actually worn the foundation for the last three days, including today. It’s been worn from around…Continue Reading “[REVIEW] Benefit Oxygen Wow Foundation”

Ok, so I’m super late to the party on this one. I’ve constantly heard about the Nars Tinted Moisturiser on YouTube and in blogs, but just didn’t think it was for me. Despite the fact that I love light bases, I’d previously had a tinted moisturiser which was actually coming up really dry on my skin, which put me off them for a while. However, having discovered this, I’ll be far more open to trying other tinted moisturisers in the future (at least, when I’ve…Continue Reading “[REVIEW] Nars Tinted Moisturiser”

Having relatives who live in America has its upsides and downsides. Obviously I don’t get to see them very often, but I do get awesome holidays and US make-up available whenever people are visiting. I take full advantage of this, and this was kindly brought over for me a week or so ago. I know Tarte is available in the UK, but this was definitely an easier option! I also got the matching concealer of this, but I haven’t really tried that out enough yet….Continue Reading “[REVIEW] Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation”
